Poyntsfield distillery

Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The location of Poyntsfield distillery is still very much on the map as a house, farm, cottages and outbuildings, although it is today spelled Poyntzfield. It sits about three quarters of a mile southwest of Jemimaville on the Black Isle, part of Easter Ross and Cromarty.

The distillery’s water was likely supplied by a stream that runs through the area, feeding the Udale Burn on its way to the Cromarty Firth at Jemimaville.

Poyntsfield History

Poyntsfield distillery operated under distiller Duncan Montgomery for a decade from 1813 until he was sequestrated and the site closed.

In recent years the old Poyntzfield house has been rented as a holiday home, with some guests claiming that it is haunted. Whisky, it seems, was not the only spirit at Poyntsfield.
