The Philips Scottish Sale (Lots 538-645) 26 August 2000
Bidding if you are unable to attend | Sale Particulars

There are three options for absentee bidding at this auction if you cannot attend in person. These are offered as free services to intending buyers.

Option 1 is suited to those in timezones that make 11.00am GMT uncomfortable (but note the more restrictive advance time cut off in (1.) below).
Option 2 is scotchwhisky.com recommended!
Option 3 is limited to items over £500

Option 1. Absentee Bidding (Commisions bids) by Fax
(1.) Faxed bids for this sale must be made before Friday 25th August Midnight GMT
(2.) The Sale (Whisky portion) takes place Saturday 26th August (morning) 11.00 till 12.30 GMT

Phillips are happy to undertake a commission bid on your behalf. This means that, with your written permission, we act as your representative to secure an item for you at the lowest possible price.

You simply complete a Bid Form  (this link takes you to a printable Bid Form), giving your price limit for any specific lot (this should be the maximum hammer price that you are prepared to pay, not forgetting that a buyer´s premium and VAT will be added), together with the usual details we need if you were registering for the sale in person (your Client Card number or your name, address and daytime telephone number). This should be faxed to +44 20 7491 1609 no later than Friday 25th August Midnight GMT (11 hours before the Saturday whisky sale commences)

If Phillips receive two bids of equal value, preference is given to the bid that arrives first. On the day of the sale, you are welcome to check whether your commission bid has been successful by telephoning Phillips Edinburgh (+44 131 225 2266) an hour or so after the end of the sale. Otherwise, a successful bid is confirmed by invoice.

Option 2. Live Online Bidding with www.theauctionchannel.com  recommended

This is Broadcast live on the Internet with interactive bidding and is the first time a serious Scottish based whisky auction has provided realtime biding over the Internet.  It takes about 15 minutes to register with www.theauctionchannel.com and scotchwhisky.com's research shows that this is an excellent online simulation of the bidding process.

Option 3. Telephone bids

Alternatively, for higher value lots over £ 500, you can arrange to make a telephone bid. This is particularly appropriate if you want to place your own bids on a specific lot, even though you cannot be in the saleroom yourself. Telephone bids must be booked in advance with the saleroom manager on +44 131 225 2266. They are available on a first-come first-served basis and may be subject to a minimum lot value. You will also be asked to complete a Bid Form so complete the instructions under Option 1

On the day of the sale, a Phillips representative will telephone you about five lots before your lot comes under the hammer. This gives you time to get a "feel" for the auction and the prices being achieved. When your lot comes up, you will be talked through the bidding and asked at each stage if you wish to continue - until either you are successful or choose to withdraw
