Asahi Group Holdings
Tokyo-based food and drink company.
Acorn is a small but well-known independent bottler based in Sadako City, Saitama. While its focus is bottling single cask whiskies under the Acorn Natural Malt brand for the Japanese market, its products are now sold more widely with distribution in Germany, The Netherlands, Australia and Taiwan.
Owner Seishi Tsuta has also established a retail shop in Tokyo called Whisky Plus, which stocks the Acorn bottlings as well as various other whiskies and brandies.
Acorn was founded by Tsuta in August 1996, although trading did not properly begin until January 1997. Prior to this Tsuta had spent five years in the UK working for Oddbins followed by another 10 years in Tokyo working for a wine and whisky specialist. The first proper ‘Acorn’ own label releases – Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Glenlivet – were bottled for the company’s third anniversary in 1999. Since then releases have been steady and consistently of high quality.
In 2014 Tsuta opened the Whisky Plus shop in Toshima, Tokyo.
