Once a prolific London-based blender, and owner of the Glenmark range of blended whiskies, Duncan, Gilbey & Matheson Ltd now trades solely from its base in Zambia, Africa.

Duncan, Gilbey and Matheson Zambia Ltd is the current incarnation of the company, and it supplies British and Dutch alcoholic beverage brands, including whisky, brandy, gin and rum, throughout Zambia, from its base in Lusaka. The company is fully Zambian-owned.

Duncan Gilbey & Matheson History

Originally named Duncan, Gilbey & Matheson Ltd, the company was incorporated in 1957 and was a London-based blender and exporter, which boasted a history of activity in East Africa. The firm was retained by East African Distillers as a technical partner for its establishment in 1963. Three years later, the Zambian company was formed, and the British-based firm of Duncan Gilbey & Matheson International traded until liquidation 1992.

The Glenmark brand was used by Duncan, Gilbey & Matheson Ltd for its range of blended whiskies, including Rare Old Scotch Whisky, Special Reserve, and three and 12-year-old variants, while the firm also produced Queen Elizabeth London Dry Gin.
