Local grocer Georg Roth was founded in Fürth, Germany in 1921. Out of the company the first Norma store opened in Nuremberg, Bayreuther Straße in 1964. Between 1971 and 1989, the company expanded by opening new distribution centres in Augsburg, Regensburg, Eutingen, Cochem, and Röttenbach. By 1986, Norma had over 550 stores across Germany and, in 1989, the first foreign branch opened in Reidisheim, France. In 1992, the company expanded to the Czech Republic and then to Austria in 2005.
