Robert Graham Profile

A Victorian business now operating stores in Glasgow, Edinburgh, London and Cambridge, Robert Graham has only been selling Scotch whisky under its own house label since 2002. Its current bottling portfolio includes the core range – which consists of the Hoebeg Islay single malt, Cearban blended malt and Ailein Mor Highland single malt – Dancing Stag, and Treasurer’s Selection, which includes a cask-strength range.

The Edinburgh Canongate store houses the Robert Graham Treasurer 1874 Reserve Cask. This ‘living cask’ uses a solera system ensuring the barrel never empties. The result is a dynamic and evolving spirit, harking back to previous generations of bottlings.

Robert Graham History

The company was founded by Sir Robert Graham, the Treasurer of Glasgow in 1874. By 1889, the Glasgow business included a newsagent, bookshop and tobacconist; by 1920, there were 20 different Robert Graham stores in Glasgow. Seventy years later, the company was still family-owned but consolidated into a single specialist tobacco and cigar shop.

The firm was sold to Ron Morrison in 2002 when it began to stock Scotch whisky. Graham’s released its first independently bottled whisky one year later: a Rosebank 11 Year Old. Its online store opened in 2007, followed by a shop in Cambridge in 2013.

In September 2014, Robert Graham was sold to Stephen Johnstone. As of 2016, it sells close to 5,000 products including whisky, tobacco, spirits and wine.
