Tomatin
Japanese-owned malt distillery.
The name Phopochy appears to have vanished without trace and the exact location of this distillery is unknown. OS coordinates recorded in the 19th century place it west of Inverness, close to what is now the A862 Inverness-Beauly road and railway line at the site of Ardfearn Nursery. This area forms a slight promontory on the south shore of the Beauly Firth. Current maps show no burn or other flowing water source in the immediate vicinity. However, it was not unknown even 200 years ago for long lades, or even pipes, to be laid from a burn or loch to ensure water supplies.
Phopochy distillery was licensed to Alexander McCullum in 1821 and it operated until 1830.

One of more than 20 lost distilleries in the Inverness area, Bught survived barely one year.
