Broad Street Brands Profile

Broad Street Brands is a subsidiary of City & Merchant and is headed by chartered accountant Timothy Lyle. Caroline Whitfield, who established Blackwood Distillers Ltd back in 2002 with the intention of creating a distillery on Shetland, has a 23.3% shareholding in Broad Street Brands.

Broad Street Brands History

Broad Street Brands was incorporated in 2011 and took over the assets of Catfirth Ltd, successor to Blackwood Distillers Ltd, which had entered administration, ending Caroline Whitfield’s hopes of building Shetland’s first whisky distillery.

The principal asset of Catfirth was a quantity of Muckle Flugga whisky, a blended malt probably sourced from Inver House Distillers. It is named after the famous lighthouse at the northern tip of the Shetland island of Unst. Muckle Flugga is ‘overwintered’ on Shetland in casks for a year, before being returned to the mainland for bottling.
