With a history spanning more than 300 years, Fortnum & Mason has expanded from a small grocer to owning its flagship store in Piccadilly, plus outlets in St Pancras, Dubai and Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport in London. Not to mention, its online website which ships worldwide.
What exists now as Fortnum & Mason first started as a small store in St James’ Market, London, in 1705. Founded by Hugh Mason, the company came up with the idea of selling Queen Anne’s half-used candle wax, at a profit, and that spearheaded the company’s success.
The first record of Scotch whisky being bottled for Fortnum & Mason is dated 1887, though the first concrete ascription of a Fortnum & Mason own-label bottling of Scotch whisky was in 1933, according to the company’s archived wine catalogues.
