Travel exclusive: GlenDronach Boynsmill 16-year-old is named after the distillery’s Highland home

The 16-year-old expression was matured in a combination of ex-Port, Pedro Ximénez and oloroso Sherry casks, before being bottled without colouring or chill filtration at 46% abv.

Boynsmill is described as having ‘plum pudding, cherry stone and apricot brandy’ notes on the nose and an ‘exceedingly rich and fruity’ palate.

The expression is named after Boynsmill Estate, which was established as the home for GlenDronach distillery by its founder James Allardice in 1826, and continues to welcome visitors today.

GlenDronach master blender Dr Rachel Barrie said: ‘The GlenDronach Boynsmill aged 16 years celebrates the rich heritage of the distillery, with a small number of casks hand-selected to showcase its robust and complex Highland character.

‘Pedro Ximénez and oloroso Sherry casks express the rich and full-bodied signature style of the GlenDronach, while Port casks from the Douro Valley subtly influence the balance of fruit, recognisable in the “Valley of the Brambles”.’

Boynsmill is available from select travel retail outlets for around £88, or US$115.

The expression will join GlenDronach’s first travel retail exclusive whisky, Forgue, which was launched in September 2018.
