Chivas Brothers has unveiled The Royal Salute Age Collection, a limited edition set of 10 blended Scotch whiskies with a price tag of US$40,000 (£26,000).

Just 21 sets of the Age Collection have been created to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s 63rd year on the throne – the longest reign of any British monarch.

The bottles, created from dark blue crystal, are presented on a plinth made from 8,000-year-old Neolithic wood sourced from Croatia.

The youngest blend in the collection contains whisky that’s at least 21 years old, while the oldest in the range carries a 30 Year Old age statement.

Some of the bottlings feature whiskies from silent distilleries, while others contain liquid matured solely in first-fill American oak barrels.

Vadim Grigorian, global brand director for Royal Salute, said: ‘The Age Collection combines timeless tradition with contemporary understanding to create a celebration of longevity in the year Queen Elizabeth becomes Britain’s longest serving monarch.

‘As sources of the naturally preserved material are very limited, this rare oak is the perfect way to display the time and craft behind these blends. The Age Collection unites time, craft and quality; all values encapsulated by Royal Salute.’

The Royal Salute Age Collection is available in select global markets, while a one-off limited edition set has been made for the DFS Masters of Wines and Spirits 2015 exhibition, the plinth for which has been carved from a single morta oak tree.
