How Macallan built its new distillery

Described as a legacy building, with the same level of engineering that goes into a skyscraper, Macallan’s new Speyside distillery is more than a place to make whisky – it’s a work of art.

The structure has taken the work of over 400 builders, engineers, coppersmiths and other tradespeople; £140 million and 3.5 years to construct.

Here the people behind the project explain how the need to expand the Macallan’s output led to the creation of the biggest – and most disruptive – distillery opening of the decade.
