BenRiach debuts 24 single cask whiskies

Speyside distillery BenRiach has released Batch 16 of its single cask programme, comprising 24 new single cask whiskies aged for between seven and 33 years.

This year’s instalment of the annually-released collection is designed to ‘offer a rich insight into the eclectic cask collection’ in the BenRiach warehouses, containing whiskies aged in ex-Hungarian Tokaji wine casks, ex-Sauternes barriques and ex-Jamaican rum casks, among others.

BenRiach master blender Dr Rachel Barrie said: ‘This release provides a rare opportunity to explore the many facets of BenRiach maturation in one batch, something us whisky makers are lucky to do every day.

‘Batch 16 offers [flavours such as] the sweet side of Sicilian Marsala wood, the smoked plum of the Rioja cask and a dark manuka honey palate from the 30-year-old Tokaji.’

Featuring 16 unpeated and eight peated expressions, 12 of the whiskies will be available in Europe, while the other 12 will be available in Asia Pacific, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

The collection is set to be released in July, although prices for the individual whiskies have yet to be confirmed.
