Glengoyne
Dumgoyne distillery and visitors centre.
Lang Brothers set out as a blender and whisky merchant, before extending into distilling with the purchase of Glengoyne distillery. Ian Macleod Distillers, which now owns the Lang brand, produces two blends using the brothers’ name: Lang’s Supreme and Select 12 Year Old.
The company of Lang Bros Ltd was established in 1861 by Gavin and Alexander Lang, who acted as blenders and whisky merchants. In 1876 the firm acquired Glengoyne distillery, then known as Burnfoot, and changed the name to Glen Guin, later anglicised to Glengoyne.
In 1965 fellow Glasgow whisky company Robertson & Baxter Ltd – part of the Edrington Group – took over Lang Bros and expanded Glengoyne distillery from two to three stills. In 2003 Ian Macleod Ltd bought Glengoyne and the Lang brand from Edrington for £7.2 million.
This Lowland malt with its gentle, fruity palate, commands a dedicated following.
