Johnnie Walker has launched the next expression in its experimental Blenders’ Batch range, a Sherry cask-finished blend inspired by Black Label, exclusively for travel retail.
A 12-year-old blend described as ‘a smooth-sipping dark whisky’ with notes of vanilla and smoke, Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch Sherry Cask Finish consists of whiskies from Blair Athol, Cardhu and Strathmill distilleries, among others.
The expression is priced at £26.50 (US$44) per one-litre bottle.
‘Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch whiskies are the result of bold experiments that push the boundaries in flavour,’ said whisky maker Aimée Gibson.
‘Taking inspiration from the element of Sherry cask maturation in Johnnie Walker Black Label, I was intrigued by the rich and fruity element it brought to the blend.
‘The outcome has been extraordinary; Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch Sherry Cask Finish is a sweet and rich whisky. It’s the perfect introduction for those who are new to Scotch whisky, but will also excite seasoned whisky lovers.’
With previous instalments including wine and rum cask finishes, and an Espresso Roast expression, Blenders’ Batch whiskies are the result of more than a hundred ongoing experiments.
Although Johnnie Walker is the biggest-selling spirits brand in travel retail, this is the first of the seven-strong Blenders’ Batch series to be released as a travel exclusive.
